Sapphire (Corundum) : Sapphire is transparent to opaque violet blue, blue and greenish blue. The name comes from the Latin Sapphirus, which means "dear to Saturn". It is found in India (Kashmir), Sri Lanka (Ceylon), Thailand, China, Australia, Burma (Myanmar), Africa, Northern Vietnam, Cambodia, and Montana, USA. Trade Grades, such as Ceylon and Kashmir, refer to quality ranges associated with certain regions, not necessarily the location where the stone came from. It is the birthstone for September, and Taurus as well as the 5th and 45th Wedding Anniversaries.
