Kunzite : Is in the family Spodumene, which comes from the Greek word spodumenos meaning "Burnt to Ashes". Transparent pink to purplish pink and bluish purple. It was discovered in the Pala District of San Diego County CA., and was first given a comprehensive description by the gemologist George Frederick Kunz and named after him in 1902. It was popularized by Tiffany, where he worked. The stone can fade with prolonged exposure to bright light. It is found in Brazil, Afghanistan, Madagascar and the USA.
